In March 2021, the NCAE (teacher’s union) president tweeted “Learning loss is a false construct.” In September 2021, Lindsay Mahaffey and the Wake County School Board suspended its after school program aimed at mitigating learning loss. The board and NCAE have ignored the devastating effects of learning loss, which will be one of my top priorities when elected.
If not tackled immediately, an entire generation’s ability to compete against their peers and in the global market will be sacrificed. Please see my learning loss blog to learn more. WCPSS – At a Loss for Learning
To tackle this issue, I will:
– direct the remaining covid relief funds be given to the most at-risk students in the form of a voucher to pursue tutors in specific courses
– push for an expansion of before and after-school tutoring programs
– advocate for expansion of opportunity scholarships
– work with NCGA to properly assess and fund future learning loss mitigation programs
Chip in today and help give schools back to parents.
