Every Wake County High School in D8 Has Declined in Academic Growth Under Mahaffey

Wake County School Learning Loss

Even before the pandemic, NC Department of Public Instruction showed that every high school in Linsday Mahaffey’s district declined in academic growth annually since she took office.

A June 2021 Cygnal poll of likely North Carolina voters found that:

  • 55% believe education is on the wrong track.
  • 69% of parents believe education is on the wrong track.
  • 73% of parents say schools have become more political over the last five years.

If the same poll were conducted today, one could assume even greater disapproval among parents and voters given the negative effects of prolonged closures, rigid mask mandates, and the Wake County School Board’s decision to ignore learning loss.

If not tackled immediately, an entire generation’s ability to compete against their peers and in the global market will be sacrificed. Please see my learning loss blog to learn more.
